Helping Dad

A couple of days ago, Greg noticed that the baby gate we had installed had a hole that was a little too small for the latch to go into. He went into handyman mode and decided to fix it using a drill he had in the garage. This whole process immediately interested Kate, who recognized some of these off-limits toys daddy happened to be using for his project. She scooted over to him and began to entertain herself, her dad, and me. She pointed and jabbered to Greg about what he should be doing to fix the gate. She led the whole project, or so she thought. The girl likes to be in charge; I wonder who she gets that from?

Water Baby!

Our next-door neighbors, the Hartmans, have a pool and last week, they invited us over for a swim. Greg and Katie jumped at the chance to have a little water fun. At first, Kate really didn't like the water. She screamed and wanted out immediately. After a few minutes though, she warmed up to being in the water. I think it helped that dad held her close and played with her the whole time. She ended up loving the pool time and stayed in for almost an hour, playing and splashing. I think that this might actually be something she gets from me; I was always a water baby and Greg definitely wasn't.

Getting Into Trouble

Now that summer has arrived, Kate and I get to hang out a lot more than we usually do during the school year. I have found out that she is very interested in the very things that are forbidden to play with around here. One example would be the extra lotions and shampoos we keep in a tub on the floor of her room. Kate completely ignored the books, toys, and, yes, warnings from mom in order to achieve her goal - get into that stuff to see what it was! From the pictures below, you can see that this was a mission she accomplished successfully. It shows in the smile on her face.
