Meet Prudence, My Live-In Maid

Every time I Swiffer sweep the hardwoods, and let's face it, it's not that often, Kate wants in on the action. She follows me around, practically begging me to let her help. Who am I to deny her? Besides, Greg says she does a better job than I do!

Meeting Shreya

My brother, Andrew, and his wife, Priya, welcomed Shreya Rani on Friday, September 23rd, just an hour before the (30th! Yikes!) birthday Andrew and I share. I told them that I was happy to not have to share my birthday with yet another person, let alone one who is most certainly cuter than I am. Shreya is gorgeous, and she has so much hair, I am already making investments in her bow collections! Kate did well for the couple of hours we were at the hospital. It didn't bother her to see me or Greg holding a baby, but it did hurt her feelings and upset her when Shreya began to whimper a little bit. Who knew that my kid could be sensitive?! Also, just to let everyone know, Greg totally scooped me and got to hold Shreya first. I mean, it's my first Gobczynski niece, and he swoops in and steals her from under my nose?! Not cool, Uebinger. Not cool. Anyway, congratulations to the happy family, and in a couple of weeks, Baby Boy Uebinger will join us and be able to meet Shreya himself!

Let's Go Bye Bye

The other day, I was rushing around the house before Kate and I left to run errands around town. As soon as I said, "Katie, let's go bye-bye," she ran over to her toy box and grabbed her purse. My mom got her this hot pink, sparkly purse that is clearly essential for any one-year old. Fortunately, she looks good carrying it, as it is an awesome accessory to an awesome outfit. By the way, my favorite part of this first photo is the way her belly hangs over her 2T shirt and her 3T pants.

Story Time With Dad

Greg has always been proactive about reading to Kate. He often comes home, even after a long day, and picks up books to read with her. She loves it and often runs to him when he starts gathering her books. They do this so often, she can now locate There's A Wocket in My Pocket, Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? and Hands, Hands, Fingers Thumb all on her own, just by us asking her to find them. Now, as much as I want to attribute this to her innate genius, I wholeheartedly believe it is because Greg routinely takes the time to read out loud to her; she loves every minute of it. She loves being snuggled up on the couch with her dad and several books. They really are a team; where you find one, you usually find the other. After all, why else would Greg be under a pink blanket if not for Kate?

Crash!

Greg's parents, Art and Terri, dropped off a requisite set of summer wheels for Kate. She has been living in this Little Tykes car ever since last Wednesday when they brought it over. Her favorite part of riding isn't moving it forward with her feet, like one would expect. Instead, my little daredevil chooses to pedal backward as quickly as she can down the driveway and spin out while simultaneously doing a donut. For multiple rides in a row! I think I now fully understand the fear my own parents had when they were raising me. Her behavior sounds like scarily familiar territory; I was always the twin who was pushing the limits of what my parents said was safe. Maybe she will inherit the redhead attitude along with the fearless one she is already displaying. I guess we'll see!
